You should not attempt to file your asylum application entirely on your own.
To qualify for asylum, one has to show that they were persecuted or have a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.
In addition, the applicant must be physically present in the United States and must file within one year of arrival.
There are various additional requirements not listed here. A successful application will
answer every question on the application correctly and supply supporting documents such as a description of country conditions which help explain why and how the applicant was persecuted.
A person who has submitted a complete application may apply for an employment authorization document 150 days after the date on which a complete asylum application was submitted.
A person who is granted asylum may eventually be able to apply for and obtain a green card.
